View Full Version : Mallala Practice Days

Ok, since a lot of people have less of an idea as to when the practice days i thought it might be prudent to let people know what is up.
The next practice days are on the:
Friday 23rd June - Pre-Race
Saturday 1st July - General
Saturday 12th August - General
Friday 18th August - Pre-Race
Saturday 9th September - General
The pre-race ones are before a racing weekend, and will usually be made up of competitors for that weekend trying to sort out issues or get in last minute practice. So the pace would be somewhat more frenetic than the general meetings.
I, and several others, are intending to make it to the 1st July practice before the supertrucks meeting on the 21-23rd.

I'll probably come down on the 1st july for a drive and check out the other cars, prolly won't go on the track but it should be a nice day :)

Heh, part of me is hoping itll be drizzling for the next 3 weeks, because that way there might be snow on the alps. The other part of me wants to get out to Mallala on a nice dry track with decent temps.

You'll just have to hope for nice weather I think ;) If it's gonna be nasty it won't be a nice drive out there but should be interesting watching people on the track.

guys just a question. do you need any form of license apart from your normal drivers license to have a few laps around the track and also, how much does it cost?? :D :D :p :p i fancy myself as a top driver, i wanna see what my 4a-f corolla can do :d
thanks
gerald
jonchai
03-09-2006, 10:58 PM
for normal people like us...it cost $90 for the one day practice day entry, and additional $20 for the one-day CAMS licence. plus tyres, fuel, brakes, and if you want to hire a shed for the day, its another $20 (i think..or issit $30???) it's well worth having a shed to store the miscellaneuos stuff.
takai
03-09-2006, 11:32 PM
Sheds are overrated, usually i bring a marquee if i can really be bothered, but normally it stays in the back of the car.
Next practice is on the 9th of September, which i will definately be at. Just have to decide how late i want to be up on Tuesday and Wednesday kitting these calipers....

how thrashed does a car get on one of these days???
would it be recomended to throw some other tyres on my rolla? anyone got any tyres that would fit on the corolla that i could use. Im not taking it real seriously, i just wanna have some fun.

depends on how you drive, but for me, whenever i see a nice curvie road i can't help but flatten my right foot..i think its reflex:p

no....unless you are running slicks! even then, i was running road legal slicks, couldnt be bothered changing it at Mallala so i just drove up there with them...its no biggie

as for the shed thing..Takai tows his car there, so its easy for him to store his tools/spare wheel/computer/drinks/torch/jack/chair/fuel tanks/bag of food/ipod and other Misc items. screw-it...just leave them in the car

Doesn't cost anything
I went there one time with my mate he drove and 3 of us came with him to watch. We sat in the stands for parts of it and never got asked to pay anything, I didn't see any other speccys paying either so I think you're right ;)
Snyper, helmet yes. I'm not sure about the car check  Also my mate got the tow stickers and stuff put on his car and a fire extinguisher installed on the bottom front of his passenger seat. Not 100% sure if all this is compulsory

Not for a practice day, for a supersprint, yes.
Only a "roadworthy" car for a practice day. However, the fire extinguisher is reccomended.

roadworthy as in rego'ed or ?
Starfire

Not quite Dave,
A roadworthy car will pass inspection but you can take a track car (like your GT4).
takai
08-09-2006, 03:18 PM
Yeah, it doesnt need to be regoed. Simply not going to fall apart. Im taking the race car out there tomorrow.
THe limitation is that if you are running a logbooked car then it needs to comply with the logbook requirements, and also you need to wear competition clothing.

yeah had engine trouble on friday practice thought it was the box at first, but was motor, think my overheating problem and a problem with my oil cooler was the culprit. other than that it went hard as lots of fun, should be good when sorted. there was some awsome racing.

Felt bad for Adam Wallis in the last Sports (aka Porsche) race, had a massive lead before a safety car to rescue a car from the sand trap, then lost it on cold tyres on the first corner of the restart, dropped to dead last in a heart beat. Entertaining watching 8 or so Porsches trying desperately to avoid him...

good effort man. i read something on the site about needing a specific cams license. can this be issued on the day? wot are the costs involved in this? also, i couldnt find any specifics on the requirements of the car, obviously it would need to be in good mechanical condition, but what else would you need? sofar i could thingk of; fire extinguisher, batery location sticker and tow hook location sticker. any thing else major that im missing?
also, how often do people from on here go to these sort of events? Ive never driven on a track before and would love to be able to have someone who knows a bit about what they are doing to give me some pointers out there.
jazae86
20-06-2007, 07:32 PM
You car needs to be in a roadworthy condition (tho some cars a bit dodgy) but if it isn't spilling oil and looks like it won't fall to pieces than it will pass. You need a fire-extinguisher that is reachable whilst in the driver's seat. Battery sticker and a number on your car (they'll assign you one when you sign up). You don't need tow hook labels, just accessible tow hooks.
You need to be a member of a CAMS affiliated club (ie Austin 7 membership is $97.50 first time and ~$70 each year after). The day costs $110 to race (but you get a discount of $10 for being a member of Austin 7 club as they run the event :D ). Also on the first day you race you have to get your cams licence (about $85) from memory. The L2S cams licence is for 1 year. So the first time out is expensive but what you are paying for is organisation.
Before I raced I went out to watch how the day goes and I would highly recommend you do the same. The next meet is July 15 and then you could come out 1 month later and race in August.
Have a look at the entry forms for more details and sup reg and cams website for all the rules but most cars will easily be able to run. The hardest bit is nominating a lap time to be honest.
