Day6: (Sunday Day)
Well another early start today... Didnt have much to get done today, but wanted to have the afternoon to chill.
Was a busy morning sifting through the orginal loom and removing anything i no long had in the car or needed. Here is a pic of the new loom.
*notice the limited amount of loom just sitting out the drivers door*
http://images.cainer.net//uploads/LMSRP.jpg
We removed the s*** on the firewall and sprayed it with Matt Black
http://images.cainer.net//uploads/PNTDSH.jpg
Then we started working on relocating the battery to the boot. Here is far we are. Obviously am going to have to purchase a new battery.
http://images.cainer.net//uploads/BATBT.jpg
We have also removed unwanted wires from the engine bay, have removed the rear windscreen wiper and also aerial, am going to shave them. Also removed the clutch master and slave cylinders.
Am waiting for the arrival of my surge tank, external fuel pump, manifold and halfcut

Update
Well havent touched the car since sunday lol damn work commitments. lol
Will try and get some work on it tonite... Want to vaccum the front carpet and make it look tidy and easier to work in on the weekend. Going to removed the white glue stuff on the doors and also look at removing center bolts from the firewall no longer needed.
Being purchased tomorrow will be:
High Mount Manifold
2/2.5lt Surge Tank
Bosch 040 External Fuel Pump
50mm Wastegate
Will be installing the Surge Tank on the weekend and storing the other goodies. :P
Hopefully my halfcut will turn up next week when my parents are away lol so if will be quite a surprise when the come back from cairns lol
Saturday
Well started work on the car again today. Unfortunately the halfcut has been delayed until the end of the month, so had to find something to do today. Also the manifold i was going to purchase jumped up $400 in price so i told them to F**k off lol.
Have order through ebay a manifold/bosch 044 and 50mm wastegate.
Today we start the installtion of the 2.5lt surge tank. Purchased all the fittings and hoses and began work on it. Unfortunately because we didnt have the external fuel pump we were unable to complete the setup and we also ran out of fuel line lol.
Looks very hot and should sound awesome once the 2 pumps are running. Anyone that knows the car knows the in-tank i have is a noisy f***er lol So with the huge external pump u wont be able to hear yoursellf think inside the cabin, but u wont be worrying about that when were sideways
Going to start working on re-installed my new bucket seats and putting the dash back in and also the new handbrake setup tomorrow, so will get photos then and upload

**UPDATE**
Have found another halfcut for cheaper and hopefully arriving this weekend or next week due to easter lol.
Am awaiting the arrival of my manifold/wastegate/external fuel pump.
Have also enquired about a halfcage that should be arriving in a couple of weeks thanks to Banzai Motorsports
As monkey said to me yesterday. Now is the good part, you have finished pulling the car apart and now we get to put it back together. :P
Unfortunately once the engine arrives you wont be seeing anymore pictures of the engine bay until its finished..... Ill just give u updates of the interior and parts that arrive for the engine. Like turbo, wastegate, manifold, ecu etc
Sorry guys.

Its been a while since my last update cauuse ive been lazy to do anything plus still waiting on s***.
Go my ass over the computer chair the other week and got the crossmember installed again and attached the powersteering again and put the wheels back on and finally pushed the car out of the garage after 4 weeks lol.
Here is a pics of the crossmember.
http://images.cainer.net//uploads/crossmember1.jpg
Today I decided to start work on my dash. Because Im not going to have any airconditioner units ive decided to cover up all my air vents and also the nice big crack i have. So i went down to Bunning and purchased everything i needed to fibre glass it :)
This being my first time fibre glassing anything it was a bit of hit and miss. It started off all good, until the mixture went harder quicker than we expected.... and then started to heat up considerable in the bucket.... so i threw it over the fence lol... Found out i used too much catalyst. After some expert advice from the bunnings staff in nerang it was all going ahead good :) Have done almost all the dash, but just gonna let it dry and finish it tomorrow.
From the pics u will see the s*** side on the left which is were we used too much catalyst and it dried to quickly and then the other good side lol.

And just one random shot of the car with its wheels on :D

Have to fix up the s*** side... was thinking bout either sanding it back or cutting the lumps out and throwing another layer on?? Anyone with fibre glassing skills let me know.

Fair enough, but I don't see any 'conversion' info at all in what you've posted so far apart from pulling the engine out. Once you start making up engine mounts etc, perhaps it would be more relevant in here. At the moment it just looks like a general build-up thread , which belongs in member's rides.
Then again, I don't really care either way
In any case, good to see you're getting your hands dirty and doing something a bit different. I've seen a 1UZ in a 180, but that's about it.
Cheers,
Jeremy.

Is it just me or does it look like dream to work behind the Nissan dash once it's removed compared to most Toyotas? There seems to be a lot of room.

New Bosch 044 fuel pump is in, just gotta get a fitting so i can connect the lines up. Have also dumpy fitted the manifold. Looks very sexy :D
Will definitely get some pictures tomorrow and post up after i finish working on my dads car, which now has 2 nice big holes on either side of the block :)

UPDATE:
Got my hands on an engine stand today thanks to the guys at WBR(Wilson Brother Racing) who are currently sponsoring Andrew in the black cefiro who will be out on the weekend :D
Anyway got it up on the stand and removed the sump, plennum, fuel rail, loom, cam covers.
Replacing the sump with a front sump instead of the med rear it originally had. Will be putting the standard plennum and fuel rail back on but with new 850cc injectors and complete new wiring because i will be running a microtech ltx12s.
Going to send the cam covers away to get resprayed in candy blue, before putting them back on.
Sump should be arriving tomorrow and will try and get that bolted in before leaving for the DA round up at Queensland Raceway saturday morning. :D

Update
Finished the metal insert for the cluster setup.
The only things in the cluster will be Microtech Digi Dash, which shows certain things like revs (with warning lights), water temp, throttle percentage, ambient temp, duty cycle etc.
There is will also be a high intensity light, which will be hooked up to the oil sender and will light up if oil pressure is lost for obvious reasons :).
Just put the cluster back in, it doesnt have the digidash or light installed yet.

Can't say I'm a fan of that dash, But you are right on the money with the rest of that conversion. Out with boat anchor RB20 and in with JZ power. I built up a R31 skyline with a 2JZ in it. It's just stock but makes 241rwkw through the auto. And flogs the living shit out of any similarly modded skyline. (FMIC exhaust etc)
I see you are in QLD. If you have any probs feel free to ask as its probably a similar conversion to what I have done and I may be able to help.

Dash spot for the microtech dash looks good. I would like to do that in the future also :)

22-07-2006, 02:22 PM
i have also just started fitting my 2jz into an s13, i am using a standard motor tho.
Must say you have definatley opened the wallet on this project, I also using microtech ltx12 and will be modifying engine as i gain more confidence in drifting the animal.
I jope you are doing the 4 pot brake upgrade also.
IRB20
23-07-2006, 07:28 PM
Im running dba slotted rotors on all 4 and it was over kill with the rb20 in there, so it should be fine with the more power... if not ill change it later :)

Update
Well i finally got the engine mounts on thursday night. Today we attached the engine mounts to the motor and put the motor in the car.
The mounts were perfect. The engine pretty much dropped into the engine bay :P The custom mounts were definitely worth it.
And here is what everyone has been waiting for :) It looks so at home in there :P
http://images.cainer.net//uploads/motor2.jpg
http://images.cainer.net//uploads/motor1.jpg
The clearance off the firewall is more than the rb20 and it just looks and feels perfect lol.
Also Derek(monkey) started to rub back the car. Only did a part of the rear quarter. But it came up real nice :) Should have the rest of it done tomorrow :D

Yep people always assume the 2JZ is bigger than RB's but its actually more compact. Looks good.

its actually a 1j and yeah its definitely smaller :D
MR 1JZ
19-08-2006, 05:54 PM
what spring rates you running front and rear?
IRB20
19-08-2006, 05:56 PM
14 Front, 12 Rear :P
Figured that would be enough to handle the little bit of extra weight up front.
MR 1JZ
19-08-2006, 05:57 PM
thats a fair bit...why not go for something that you would find in an RB powered ceffy or laurel like 12-8 or 10-8
youre going to have grip issues front and rear with 14 and 12
IRB20
19-08-2006, 06:02 PM
Had a mate that was running 12 - 10 in his ceffy and he said it was quite good.
I just want to counter the weight in the front as much as possible.
Im not set on a spring rate but its either 14 - 12 or 12 - 10.
MR 1JZ
19-08-2006, 06:25 PM
12-10 is still somewhat acceptable its just my personal opinion that you will be fighting to maintain grip at the front and rear in such a light car with 14 and 12
afterall...its not just about going sideways anymore...its about being able to accelerate hard while still maintaining good line and angle and smoke of course
IRB20
19-08-2006, 06:32 PM
heheh so true. I will probably end up with 12 - 10 and if i dont like it i can change :D

thought i might post a couple of pics of my s13 conversion, your right these motors look at home in engine bay. These photos are abit old, i have to wire up microtech and it's ready to fire up pretty much. Have done this conversion over last 3 months. All work was done at home by myself. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
Yours is looking good so far.
How much did the mounts sting you by the way? Curious as i have made a jig to fab mounts and sold a set recently for $100

duh, I meant 1J's and 2J's are smaller :) Everyone always asks how I fit my 2J in. The rear turbo sticks out a bit which can cause probs but the over all width etc is smaller than a RB20 :)
IRB20
20-08-2006, 12:32 PM
awh cool cool :)
Yeah i dont have to worry about the rear turbo :) biggish single fixes that :P

Well after waking up at 6.30 this morning we finally finished the first stage of the prep. Decided to fill the body line so thats all gone now :) Also removed the arial and rear windscreen wiper and squirter, so they are all filled and sanded also.

Ha ha ha Love it.....I do see an engine pic there. I was under the impression that we werent meant to see the engine LOL :D
Good to see it coming along nicely. A question, with the guard rolling machine, it didnt cause the top of the rear quarter to want to dip in a bit? Sometimes silvias and 180's do that, so it takes time to roll them out slowly. How long did it take you to roll them?

Well this was the first time that i had used the machine so i wasnt really sure what it was capable of. Each side took me approximately 20min and there wasnt any dipping at the top of the rear quarter on my car. A mate came around and used it on his car and some dipping did occur.
What i did is actually classes as flaring. i just put more arm effort into the roller machine to get that effect.

Well got some suspension parts this week. They included
CUSCO front Coilovers
CUSCO camber tops
Adjustable Caster Rods
Adjustable Tie Rods
KTS Tie Rod Ends
Sourcing a set of rear heigh adjustable coilovers and also have a set of rear upper camber links that i should be picking up next week.
Also on order are my 850cc injectors for IAP. :) It might be moving ahead slowly but its moving non the less :P
Here are some pics of the front suspension parts and the amount of lock i have now with the tie rods at there minimum and not adjusted properly. I have been told that with the parts i should be able to get something like 89degree's of lock. :D

What sway bar or sump? Custom sway bar is something that needs to be thought out very well. But I guess same with the sump. Wouldnt have been better to mount the motor in a different possition? Or is there no other way of doing it? I am not talking from experiance here....just merely asking questions, I am interested in this stuff.

Had to run a front sump to clean the crossmember and other things like powersteering lines with minimal fuss. Yes the front sway bar isnt bolted in. The current one in there is the standard CA sway bar. I will need to get a custom sway bar made up to clean the front sump. Will sit approximately 7cm off the ground when installed correctly.

So whats left you may ask.
Only a few things.
1 - 1 m efi fuel line from fuel filter to fuel rail (woke up to late and missed getting to ENZED before they closed)
2 - Fuel in fuel tank
Then double check everything is tight and secure.
Then press the start button again.
Unfortunately ENZED is closed tomorrow. So i cant get the fuel line. So Im just gonna have to wait until next weekend :(

Yeah thats what I mean;) Price difference maybe? They look mechanically the same, except the HKS has these funny looking pits/holes in the intake mouth of the compressor housing, aparently it is meant to sound louder and "cooler" when it comes onto boost?
Out of curiosity what is the price difference between the garrett and the HKS?
