View Full Version : Wakefield Park Track Day - Friday August 13th!!

***new bit worth reading***

One of these days i'm going to get around to writing a new post for these. But not today - the whole reason i'm creating this thread this far out is how little time i have between now and then. In particular, i'm going to be overseas for 2 weeks between now and then. It was going to be right up to the day before, but that's all been thrown in the air now and we're still trying to figure out when it's going to happen. Amongst that there's a few other small trips away so i can see this going pear-shaped easily.

So, i thought i should get this done and get you guys moving now in the hope i can have everyone sorted and paid up before i turn around and realise i have nobody and no way of organising it.

***/new bit worth reading***

That being said, this will be the same as usual;

***copypasta***

... a lot of you know the drill/post by now. Cost is $180 per car, we run a limited number of cars so you pay per car and can cycle as many drivers through one car as you like, it's open track all day with 12 on circuit and a one in one out basis. I currently have at least 15 spots reserved for Toymodders, and can usually grab a couple more if we fill these up quick enough.

All the usual info, thursday and friday nights at the Pelican to talk shit and drunkenly exaggerate, bring CAMS or valid driver's licence, helmet, neck/wrist/ankle length clothing, sleeping bag, pillow and beverages if staying (accom is about $30/night depending on numbers).

No official timing means cheaper insurance (and therefore track time) and passengers are allowed for 'driver training purposes', but feel free to organise your own.

When you commit to coming, i will PM bank details to transfer to (incl for accomodation to book spots), then when i see the coin i will add you to this

I'm off OS next week for 4 weeks, so I'm a bit pre-occupied with that.

But I have my car back now, it "just" needs the front right hub changed before the next day, so that's doable.
Plus I'm really keen after missing the last one...

Can you put me on the waiting list for the mo & I'll sort it after I get back.

-GT-

Greg, what details? Bank details are same as last 4 years.

civa, Quad 82, gtijeff: PM'd my bank details.

Damo, your cash turned up a couple of days ago, before i even saw your post.:)

Steve, let me know when you do.

Guys, if you're in for the accommodation remember to transfer it with your track fees so we can confirm numbers for the booking.

Damn, this is starting to look like a big day - good to hear.:)

Guys, i've received PMs and posts, will grab some time shortly and respond/confirm spots - hopefully later tonight as i'm away again this weekend but will get on top of it i promise!

Ed, awesome. I take it Saturday went well then, even without my pissweak effort at help. Spoke to Jase around lunchtime and they were cruising around looking for bits - working the morning killed me and i just ran out of time before going to the wallabies game.

Dong! wow...

Nope, no issue - plenty of unregoed specials out there, the z20 will have no issues. We've been having these days regularly with them for years so scruiteering is a little, um, relaxed.:) As vilo said, if it's not pissing oil or fluids, drawing attention to itself or just generally being on fire you'll be fine.

Ok, so i've sorted through the barrage and responded to PMs etc, sent bank details to everyone who's asked i think - if i've missed you let me know and i'll fire them off. Justen, details should be fine from last time but i'll flick them across again just in case.

Have updated the list in the first post and it's looking a little full! Confirming money received from Damo, Manny, Vilo, civa, Quad 82 and Brad. Am waiting for transfers to clear from Adam and Lewx and have put the 4 others on the list who've said they're transferring this week.

Justin, Dong, anybody else keen, let me know as it looks like i'll be needing to go scrounge more spots. Shouldn't be a problem this far out but obviously the earlier the easier.

Looking like a pretty solid Toyota domination!

I'm out. Car is unlikely to be out of panel beaters by then.

Farkin stupid confused old man.
I had HIS insurance company contact me to get the details of the accident, because they couldn't get an answer out of him. How can people like this be licenced to drive?!!?

if this leaves a free spot then i have someone ready and waiting to take it ^

-GT-
30-06-2010, 09:19 PM
Shit Greg, not back for 6 weeks?? How much damage was there? Guess you're waiting for panels to be overnighted from japan?

This doesn't mean there's a spot free - i haven't had any luck on extras yet and i was actually over my allocation but sit tight as a couple will probably come up, it's just a little early to take spots off the others.

Draven
30-06-2010, 10:14 PM
I'm in europe for 4 weeks, panel damage after that.

Front bar will likely have to be shipped by sea from Japan.

I *may* be able to organise something or come along, but I won't know until I get back - so 4 week timeframe. If anything becomes available in the last 2 weeks I might take it, but I don't want to commit beforehand

02-08-2010, 11:22 PM
Yeah guys back on deck and scrambling to sort this circus out. :) Had a few pullouts so you're on the wait list Yojimbo and not too far down it.

Jerry/David - i got two spots for you guys if you're still keen? Otherwise the first post has been updated. Not long to go now! I know there's a particular soarer with a new splitter and front track looking to better a recent PB... and a celica desperately trying to get a new engine in time to rise to that challenge.;)

I think i may have a lead on the terrible vibrations i had from the rear on the way home from the 6hr - my right rear is shaped like a fucking 50c piece! Guess this confirms the new brake pads have even less feel than first thought. No time to do much other than maybe rotate but do i really need that from the front end??

Otherwise i might just have to try and find something else to remove.:)

yep, coilovers to allow less compression on the front left will help it to stay flat.

No real structure to the day - just jump in with a few people to check out the lines.

-GT-
03-08-2010, 07:27 PM
Cuzzo - yeah as Dylan said stiffer springs will help, toying with the idea but it's not top of the list at the moment. Partly because it would probably become +lower ride height, +negRCAs, +shortening shocks, +castor adjustment... :(

It was quite manageable before and actually doesn't do much damage to the tyre with no weight on it, but it's worse after the rear brace/removed interior/new pads. I did actually notice i was able to lock the right rear just with moderately heavy, controlled braking in a straight line on the street but that may have to do with the current shape of the tyre.:p

I'm going to back the rear swaybar off a notch as the chassis stiffening has changed things a little and see how that goes, also going to move the battery to the boot (but that won't be before this day).

Yojimbo - i've got a spot for you - fire me a PM confirming you're good to go and i'll reply with bank details.

Also, as is probably apparent above, there's a spot or two that might open up last minute.

JustenGT8
03-08-2010, 07:39 PM
You just need to put on some winter woolies, and lie down in the frost :)

That i have been doing :( but i'm just not up for the wetsuit to lie in the rain :P

but in braking news...it lives !! :)

Only a test run as the TB needs to come off to have a new TPS modded to fit. Some god awful air leak that squeals at a zillion high pitched decibles  i'll sealant up the gaskets on the final fitment.

Sounds tough as but my hastily fabricated exhaust looks like it will have two parts of fark all ground clearance and might need a last minute visit to an exhaust shop for some a tad radical ;)

1jz68u
03-08-2010, 10:44 PM
No real structure to the day - just jump in with a few people to check out the lines.

sweet sounds like a plan, i can think of a few cars i would mind going for a ride in.

Also is anyone else driving down from the western sydney area on friday morning? Would be good to cruise down with someone that knows where they are going.

v8soarer
04-08-2010, 08:28 AM

i will go down the M4 as well. any chance you wanna meet at the maccas at ****am?

-GT-
08-08-2010, 08:44 PM
Damo, M4? Perhaps you mean M5? Or are you going M2, M7? Either way Glenn, i don't think he's going down the M4 as that would take him up the mountains.:)

Also, anybody up for a last minute spot? I know Steve was talking a chance but as it stands i currently have one spot free, and will possibly have another in the next day or so.

Anybody keen needs to get to me quickly as i have to go to Brisvegas for the week (and very likely the next) so my internets will be a little restricted... I will also be flying back in on Thursday arvo and then packing the car and turning around and heading straight to the meet...

So currently for the Brooks Rd at 8pm meet (i could say earlier but really i'd probably just be late) i'm expecting;

Adam (Drifty - bringing the timer? I may want to borrow it again!:p Oh and got your $60)
Alex (alex90)
Nathan (nknoxy12)

Anybody else please let me know asap, and you probably need to give me some cash for it too.

So far for Friday i have;
Vito
Brian
Adam
Lewis (Lewx)
Josh (sxtool)

Again, anybody else keen please let me know so we can make sure we have room.

If you're not coming down with us on Thursday please make sure you're down at the track and sorted ready for the drivers briefing at 8:45am - pays to be signed in before this and ready to go. If you don't find me beforehand head to the office in front of the staging area to sign in and check with the desk outside on the way: just tell them you're in my group and your name. Then come say hi at some point.:) If it's your first time out on the track find me or someone who knows it to show you round if you'd like; Warwick's briefings are getting pretty light on as most people are regulars on our days so it might pay to get a few pointers on the do's and don't's before you get in his way; he can forget not everybody has been doing this for years.;)

If you have any questions fire away and i or someone else who's been a few times will answer. Important bits to remember are licence, helmet, closed shoes, long pants and sleeves.

Draven

I had noticed Warwick's briefing tend more and more toward comedy, and less and less toward at least the basic important facts :P

m4 -> m7 is also a good way to get to the meet point (my usual way)

Have a great day guys, bummed to miss it :(

Garth, put me into one of the spots if its available please. I'll make sure I give the hurry up to the workshop (they do know I've got a deadline).
I'll be coming down Thurs night regardless.

Greg, any chance of borrowing your brake pads like I'd previously asked?
Stupid me only remembered that you were going over to Europe today when I asked Ed about finding some brake pads like I had in my previous Dina...:o

Anyone know if a CAMS L2S licence is good enough for Wakefield, or do you still need to get one of theirs?

so do i need a special license?

-GT-

Transfer me some cash then.:) And L2S is fine - if you don't have a CAMS you need a valid drivers licence and $60(?) to get one of their 12 month ones.

tap with hammer, soak with wd40, then use breaker bar + starter. successes on 1jz and 2jz so far :)

Yojimbo
11-08-2010, 08:18 PM
Starter cant exert that much torque. Nothing like whatyou can apply with a 1m breaker bar.

So improvise with waterpipe and a shorter breaker or something if you dont have one.

Get a helper in the car, in 5th gear, handbrake on and 2 feet on the brakes hard. Lean on that sonnovabitch.

It WILL come undone.

Trust me MANY successes with 1j/2j's over many years. When every other technique has failed.

What a cracker of a day...the regular well deserved thanx to Garth for getting us the spots. The car ran pretty well all day. Absence of the front sway bar hurt front end grip so a little understeery and couldn't get the tyres up to temp? High 1:08's low 1:09s when the track was clear so happy enough with that after a year off :) 185kph at the kink and felt pretty stable so the 'splitter' is doing something...kept trying to convince my right foot to go faster but confidence wasn't up to it ;)

After a really shitty 6 weeks it was a great to have a fun day and blow off some pent up stress. Can't wait to get to the local hillclimb track now and see if i can't give that place a shake :)

Top day by the way! Thanks to Garth for organising it.
Celica ran well all day with no complaints at all, apart from the last lap where the driver side front tyre didn't sound/feel too good. After coming in and finding 5psi in it would explain it.
Lap timer on the phone was playing silly buggers so I didn't get any accurate timing. So was just a top fun day with heaps of track time.

Thanks as well Garth,
My 1st track day , the little red sprinter ran well , think the car was better than the driver ---- got a lot to learn about track work ( rally & off-road my previous passion some years ago). By end of day had figured out a few of the lines. Was amazed at the overtake speed of some of the Turbo , Supercharged and V8 cars. Had a ball & will be back for more , look forward to any pics posted .

Glad to hear everyone had another awesome day - i'm still struggling to believe how good the weather was for us, definately the warmest winter day i've ever had there! Think we ended up with a few more cars than usual due to some late additions from the MWSCC guys, around 35 i believe, but it was Toyota domination with 16 Toymodders and 1 or 2 others. A couple of early stoppages meant there was a queue more than usual during the morning but there was still clear track to be found (i had most of a session around midday with only 2 others) but despite a few busy periods the afternoon was the usual smorgasboard of clear clean track.

Have already got a couple of videos up; GT8 incar (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4wacyfB4D0) and trackside compilation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e8NXB9ZQYU) (pick the hi-res settings), and will have an in-car from Mick's 924 turbo up soon (probably in 2 parts).

Told ya you were a bit smelly to follow Damien ;)

Sub-optimal turbo oil drains - backs up and pushes past the seals when braking :(

Thanks again Garth for putting on another great event. :D

Was quite interesting trying to get around the first couple of sessions on slicks with so much water running across the 3 major corners

One highlight was riding shotgun in Damos twin turbo V8 Soarer - great all round package that turns, stops and goes extremely well.

I have to put my hand up for one of the red flags - footage is here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkyAKYdpkBo) in all it's glory and I still can't work out why it spun, made some horrible rattling noises before I shut it down and then why the bastard wouldn't fire until towed back into the pits where it then fired like nothing had happened - it then did another 40+ laps and towed the trailer home another 300kms without so much as a hiccup!!

A bit more footage, this time of Jeff's last session with a couple of shagged slicks underneath http://youtu.be/4GrkK_oNS5w

No worries. Your Supra came out quite well in a few shots :)

Ive only had the lens for about a month, so it was the first time it had been used for some action shots so I was learning how to shoot fastish moving objects and if I can be bothered to carry 2.5kg of camera around for a day... :p

Dropbox had finished uploading, so everything is up now (6 days later...) ready for you all to download everything while your at work :D

Does it work well for everybody? This is the first time Ive used it and so far it seems good on this end... (2gig free storage, whats not to like?)

Hmm, looks like its individual links for the vid then..

GT8, back part of circuit, cant really hear it, 28meg, 13 seconds, its alright, but not spectacular...

GT8, entering main straight, then through turn 1, can hear it good, 55.5meg, 28 seconds cameras a bit wobbly (I need a tripod!) but its a good clip IMO :D
