View Full Version : MS123 Conversion Poll, 1UZ-FE or 2JZ-GE?

Right.

My Supercamry runabout has been sold, so I'm picking up my next daily this weekend-a 1983 MS123 Crown in metallic light blue. It's in good nick, zero rust, and the interior is very neat.

Single problem it has though-clapped out 5M on LPG.

The options as I see them-

#1 1UZ-FE + auto (which model crown cut do I need)
#2 2JZ-GE + auto

This car will be used to tow my 10 second crown around (and probably all the way up to QLD for Jamboree) and daily driving duties. (the LPG wil be retained)

So-do I buy a half-cut and swap everything in, or do I buy a motor and trans and put an aftermarket computer on it (cheapish one)?

Discuss eggheads.

I voted the wrong one. Factory controls on the 1UZFE. Get Crown UZS131 half cut.

V8 will be helpful when towing and probably be cheaper than a 2JZ aswell. like gt says a UZS131 cut would make the whole job easy as:)

Anyone got any UZ131 pics? Are they a front-strut arrangement, or wishbone?

Is the UZ131 a Rack&pinion? Perhaps then I can use the steering and brakes off it too.

Looks like the full 1UZ front-cut is going to be the winner.............

A nice shift kit in the auto will also be mandatory.

UZS131 has wishbones and steering box.

UZS131 is the MS137's cousin.

Its identical to the MS137 with a 1UZ shoved in it, comprimise after comprimise.

Me thinks Mr Toyota needed a car to put the 1UZ in, so they shoved it in an MS137 Crown and went BAM.
This can be told by the fact its the only 1UZ on a lean, the only 1UZ without a dual exhaust, the only 1UZ with seperate auto/engine ecu's (like some 7M's), the only 1UZ with a slipyoke transmission...

So yes, concur with others. UZS131 cut, UZS131 control system.

1UZ-FE from a UZS131.

You could do it in a week.

I posted some pics up in another thread the other day of a 1UZ sitting in an MS83. The MS123 would be even easier to fit up.

Excellent.

I've had enough fabrication whilst building the Coupe to last me a freakin lifetime.

Now-any suggestions on a source for a quality 1/2 cut?

How are our two site sponsors for that sort of stuff?

Dads driving a 1992 SWB Patrol with a 4.2 diesel and shift kitted auto. Tomorrow I get the custom turbo manifold I ordered for it, and will then be fitting up the Holset blower, Tial wastegate and intercooler.:)

Towing monster.......

When are you coming home to OZ??

not really related to your car, but mine, i'm interested in a shift kit for my 1uz, anybody know where you can get them, and how much and if they work well? or do you think stock is pretty good?
just want to give mine the occasional(:D ) winding up, i'm not gonna go all out with engine mods, just the simple ones.

MV Automatics here in Adelaide do them. 08 8370 0430 ($300-$400 or so I think)

Southo also had one done in NSW, which he reported as being good, but I can't recall the name at the moment.

Also, get in touch with Chris Davey as he has some info on doing a form of shift kitting at home for very few $$$.

Apparently the problem with shift kitting 1UZ trans is the 1st/2nd shift, which is hard to control (this is very 2nd hand info) Supposedly it's hard to give the driver control over this shift for some reason...

what you're probly talking about is the delay of shift in which you hit the rev limiter before gearchange, which isn't cool.

so the kit comes with what? is it a tiptronic style thing?

anybody got any tips on tweaks for the 1uz? i was just thinking about enlarging the standard plenum in a hope for a couple more hp, i haven't really looked at the plenum setup much(inside i mean).

Is this really the thread for asking???

Do a search, then start a specific thread.

Who cares about the engine - can you get lambswool seat and steering wheel covers engineered in the new crown?

BTW I saw a blue MS85 era-ish crown custom wagon the other day at Torrens Island. It looked fairly neat, and the back wagon area was farking huge!

i thought 1983 was an ms112??? 1979-1983 :? I've got an 1981 ms112 and would also like to put a 1uz/2jz in it eventually. Funnily enough i want it as my tow car. It has a 5me atm, which is shortly going to be replaced by a ma70 supra 7mge. I figure the 7m's a lot more capable of towing a car than a 5m.

edit: please keep me informed on the conversion...make my life a little easier :P

On that note does anyone know if theres any hassles putting a 7mge into an ms112 bar the obvious power steer lines??

i have just installed the 1uz in my MS123 crown, so i say go the 1uz :)

Sounds awesome, so unique compared to my supra etc.

I finally got the 1uz in my Crown wagon fired up last weekend. I am running a single exhaust and it still sounds great. So to add to the list pit a 1uz in it.

I said 2jz + ecu thinking its the best choice for a manual performer (as the 1uz only has auto afaik) but then read that you wanted an auto so now I vote 1uz + factory ecu. :)

have you moved on this one yet Seano?

MS-75

Nay. I stayed away from cars over winter, and for the last few weeks have been engrossed in sorting the coupe. At present 1 project is more than sufficient.

If I do anything in the near future, it'll probably be buying something already done.

Sean... you'll need to look at a parachute once you hit 9s won't you?

MS-75
11-10-2006, 08:34 AM
Hi Draven, parachute comes in at a set mph, not time actually.

It's required for 140mph and over, and my best so far is 140.56 on the only full noise run I've had in it this year, and on the limiter for the final 200 ft or so.

Mind you though, there's no point in fitting the chute until I HAVE SOMEWHERE TO FREAKING RACE. aaaaaarrrrrgghhhhhhhh.
