Everyone with the new year approaching I just want to know if any one had some ideas for destinations for Club cruises for this year.
Straight up at a starting point Im hoping the road to Avon damm opens up again.
Also if people are keen to go on cruises that we have done before I'm happy to hear about that.
So basically looking for some input what people have liked in the past or where we havn't been.

I'll get my ta22 on the road in about 2 weeks so i'll be up for it.
How about a cruise down to Wisemans ferry, tight roads.

Another nice run is up to the Stanwell tops look out.
Or another
1st meet: Mascot Krispy Kreme at 8.30, leave at 8:45
2nd meet: Loftus Oval at 9:15, to leave at 9:30
Drive through RNP, meet up at Bold Hill at 10:00 - leave 10:15
Follow the coastal road south, regroup at Corrimal at around 10:45, just so we stay together for the highway bit
Turn off at Albion Park Rail, take the scenic Jamberoo route
Meet for lunch for fish and chips at Kiama at 11:40 ... if it's hot, even a swim down there
Leave at 1:00pm, same road back

cruise to wollongong via the twisty roads and the new brigde that goes out over the water......(i got no idea what the rd is called :p)...but it was a good drive!

26-12-2008, 10:42 AM
Yeh thats a great drive, but not as many twisties as the others.
Do you prefer more twisties or less twisties or a simple nice cruise meet each other and grab some lunch and just relax ?

smooth road with twistys, as alot of us have lowered cars with stiff susp, so rough roads like bobin head are pretty ghey,....but i'll go anywhere!

after the trend I set last year, I more about cruising to food.
taking the BBQ was proving to be an arse and we had some awsome pub lunches around the place last year
bells line of road up to mount victoria pub?

Theres a nice pub up near karrajong way. But i cant rememeber where. We went to it on one of the radrollaz cruises. Do you remember jono? It had a great view.
yeah, it had massive carpark too. it was probably less than half an hour up from Richmond.

That's a good drive but I would recommend coming home via JAmbaroo Mountain road and/or Macquaries Pass.

The route that Gem suggested includes the Sea Cliff Bridge that Blake suggested as well.
The other place that is great is the pub at Jambaroo. We went there with the MR2 club last year and it was a GREAT feed not too badly priced.

Lawrence Hargrave Drive (sp?)
Was hoping for this cruise to come around again:
http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16675
It had pretty much everything, OP twisties, F3 long straights, good car park with plenty of room, had to walk to the shops thought but the beach scenery was awesome.

just come back from a drive, just been down maccars creek road (sp?) then turned of that into the natio park to akuna bay, then of that to the end at west head.....was nice roads aswell....tho might require paying for park entrys tho on certain days?
McCarrs Creek Road. you have to pay to enter the National Park either down to Akuna Bay or into West Head. It is free to drive from Bayview to Terrey Hills though.
I love this road, and used to drive up it everyday.

what days sort are people free sat or sundays
I'm trying to get ideas so I get more than 10 cars a cruise this year

Yeah the putty road broke cruise was good, but i went for a bit of a long drive down to the kangaroo valley last weekend via the national park through stanwell tops along the new coast road. Skiped wollongong, past kiama way through berry turn at kangaroo valley road, now thats a nice tight road:D Stop at the Friendly inn for lunch then home. The pub has quiet a large grass carpark, but food only between 12-3pm and 6-9pm.
Cheers Matty

Good thing about Putty is you might attract some of the Newcastle cars also.
Sat or Sun.. whatever for me :)
What about some night Cruises, have had some awesome runs with the XR6 Turbo guys at night because the roads are empty so you can actually enjoy them.
Generally meetup round heathcote, then either go through the national park via waterfall or down the Old Princes highway. Have a stop over in Wollongong for Coffee at Maccas & chat. Then press on through to either Kiama then back through Jamberoo & up Macquarie Pass. Talk shit up the top for a bit & then everyone makes their own way home.
Can cut out the Jamberoo leg & go straight from the gong to Macquarie Pass or throw a happy lap of the foreshore in to (though its pretty dead these days).

Agree on the night cruises, but they don't necessarilly need to be though some twisties.
The City lights cruise we did last year was great Stitt.
Not a lot of driving done but hit up some great spots for pics and the company was great with everyone in a good mood for a light hearted shit dribbling session.
And even though we went though the heart of the city it was still pretty easy to keep everyone at least close together.

Long cruises don't have to be often. Once every 6 months or 12 months. And need to be organised well in advance so people are aware & can plan for them.
Coast road around Wollongong is ok, but there's a big chance of finding some "sunday driver" doing half the posted limit.
Saturdays are better for me, but I'm probably in the minority.

sundays are good for me, ive been on coastal cruises night cruises city cruises cruises where 100 cars can even get lost what ever you choose stiitt man im sure it will be an awsome day and cruise. im inspired now to rip my engine out and start rebiuld early.
cheers thomas
Cruises that the Newcastle guys can come on without too much driving/hassle/early morning starts are always good. I reckon one up to Nelson Bay would be good too (but only if parking could be assured), it'd be a cruise-to-a-destination though not a cruise-for-the-route like Putty Rd.
And 6-12 months is good for long ones, I regularly go on the Twincam Bathurst cruise every year, and the Megacruise, but then again since most cruises come out of Sydney just about every one for me is a long one, often with ridiculously early start or staying the night before somewhere close......
cruises where 100 cars can even get lost
Were they JZA80 Supras?

yes its a shame its not going to happen I rang Sydney Catchment Authority on (02) 4640 1200 and was told that Avon dam will never reopen, info..http://www.stonequarry.com.au/nature/avon_dam.html
because in that same aria theres..
Douglas park
Menagle park
barkers lodge rd

we now live very close to Appin
and often go for drives like this..

Avon dam rd is one of the best kept secrets roads but it has been closed for so long nowhttp://isis.instanthosting.com.au/~syd33903/phpbb2/images/smilies/mad.gif and dose not look like its ever going to be reopened.
also have a look at this very old cruise it was awesome..

My mates and i do the drive south through the royal national park and down over the sea cliff bridge about once a week. We often go all the way down, back up bulli pass, and then back along old princess hwy. It is an awesome drive.
The only problem with doing this as a club cruise is that it would be a weekend and the roads would be full of sunday drivers and the cops have started to really crack down in the national park on the weekends, which spoils all the fun.
But even so i think it would still be an alright cruise, aslong as everyone behaves themselves, and you could stop at headlands hotel for lunch.

Hi,
Stanmore tops = Stanwell tops???
If so the only pub with ample decent parking is Headlands Hotel at Austinmer. This is about 10-15mins south of Stanwell Tops depending on traffic. Austinmer is also the limit of the decent driving road. The closer pub at Scarborough has a shocking dirt carpark and very limited street parking.
There are takeaway joints at Stanwell Park, Coledale and Austinmer but the nearby street parking is always limited on w/e's.
Hope this helps,
Peter

As Pete said the best place for lunch would be headlands hotel as it is the only place that has a suitable carpark for us.

As great as the old pac is, in the day its full of cops, I know numerous people that have been booked on it (and let off) But I did used to do it every weekend for a couple of months and only saw a cop once!
As for the night, I highly doubt a cop would sit on the side of the road and wait, seeing as youre lucky to see a few cars every half an hour after 6pm, but then at night you have the problem of wallaby's, I hit one at 1am one night but only saw a couple prior to that at early evenings.
Sorry to put anyone off :P, even with these hazards its still worth it haha.
TheStitt

thanks for the tips Euphoria, we cruised the old Pac earlier this year at night. Only saw a wombat which was good.
Next couple of cruises should be great everyone check em out and come out
Did a night run from Harry's Cafe at Liverpool down the Hume Highway to the Mittagong exit. Across through Bowral to Robertson & stopped to chat at the Pie Shop. Then down Macquarie Pass. From there everyone made their own way home but you could have a final meetup at Northgate Maccas for coffee etc if its a night run. Or during the day have some pies at the pieshop.
Those that are keen could even head back home via the national park.
Another alternative, if for a day cruise is from the Pie shop down Jamberoo road & then to Kiama via the back road. Could then go to the fish co-op or hit up some of the Cafes for lunch.
