sounds like fuel delivery. check the ecu..my bet is it's not mapped out right
seen this happen to a fuel-rich mix on a 16v. dunno if it's the same thing.

hi guys,i'm new to this forum and have been reading some cool info.
Now i'm hoping that you can help me out?
I have a ae82 corolla with a 20v conversion, now the problem is that when i traveling at constant speed let's say 100 kms it seems to cut out for a second you could say it's like having a car with hiccups,any idea's as what it could be?

first thing to do is see if the ecu spits out an error code. tie TE1 to E2 and count the flashes from the CEL(check engine light). Google "toyota check engine codes" or something along those lines and match the code.

If no codes, then it's probably something mechanical or electrical but not sensor based.

Thanx guys for your help,had it checked out today by a mechanic and he seems to think it's a ecu problem as well and want's to send it away to be fixed.
Would it be worth looking into an aftermarket ecu?
What are they worth?

Could be many things, I don't think ViPeR_NiPPleX really meant that it was an ECU problem, he was just pointing out that you should start the process of elimination by checking the ECU Error codes, do as VN has said and tie the 2 terminals together and count the "Check engine light" flashes, there should be a guide on how to do this somewhere.

If it comes up with error code 14 (ignition) or something you would check your igniter connections, earth, maybe even plugs, leads & all the other shit that goes along with ignition problems.

It's all good found the codes and now i know how to do this so i will try this at work friday and see what i can find.

I linked both terminals TE1 and E1 and ecu light kept flashing with no pause as i watched this for about two mins,so i'm i right in saying that there is no problem codes and will have to start lookin else where for the problem?

Follow this link, click section 2, then 2nd from the bottom of the first group there will be Toyota ECU Diagnostic Codes, this will be a very specific guid on how to do it, Make sure you do it right or it won't work.

assuming you have done it right, there should be no ECU malfunctions recorded, so its time to start looking at the basic things like Leads, plugs ect.

It's an ignition fault, definately. There can still be an issue but not show in codes as it's likely pre-ecu not post (where the ecu can 'see' it). I've had an issue which i reckon is likely the same based on your brief description - the contacts on my ignition barrel where worn and were breaking the circuit, which kills the power to the ecu too so it won't show codes.

It can be damn hard to trace as it's only intermittent, but if it feels like your car just shuts off for a fraction of a sec and comes back on it's likely to be something like that.

Edit: Does your tacho drop and come back up too when it happens? I had the symptoms again recently but this time it was throwing an ecu code too; 14, (ign). I checked for loose connections around ignitor and coil, dizzy, didn't find anything definate but haven't had it since.

Okay change plugs today to BKR6EP-11 and tried another test ,this time i got an error code with the light flashing 4 times pausing then flashing twice so am i right in saying this is 4/22 water temp sensor

4 flashes then 2 flashes is 4-2 = 42, i had this one recently, Edited: it's Vehicle Speed Signal, do you have the spd signal from the dash (speedo) connected to the ecu? I just re-connected this and it does increase your rev limit (without it the ecu drops the limiter to 7800rpm). Not related to your issue but a good thing to fix at some point.:)

Also, for the record, i've been running BCPR7ES-11 for years, no issues.

Yeah just lookin through sheet thought it might be 42,as for speed signal I have no idea,where do i find it and how do i fix it?

Unless your original fault is very intermittent i'd be trying to sort that first, the spd signal is hurting nothing apart from the last 400rpm on your rev limit.

If you are looking for something to do it is the purple and white wire running from your dash cluster down to the 12 pin plug in your ECU.

Okay since changing the plugs from BKR5E-11 to BKR6EP-11 the problem is not so bad and not as often. I'll try checking ignition barrel and go from there.
