I'm Replacing the fuel pump in the Sprinter to a Higher flowing unit.
2 things the old pump was held in place by the hose at the top and a rubber grommet thing in the base which didn't look real Solid (and had popped out slightly) I can re use the same set up with the Walbro pump but I'd like a more sturdy fixing. Is there a drama with using Cable ties? more along the lines of will a tie be OK in fuel??
Secondly the earth wire broke and I want to fix it back using a tec screw or bolt. Same issue with being submerged in fuel, and vibrating loose?!?

ive found cable ties to be ok in fuel, tho the only one i have personally seen after i have fitted it was only in the fuel tank for approx 1 year.
canyou use a bolt and a nut on the other end for the earth?

Yes I can, just worried about the nut vibrating loose
I guess I can use a spung washer each side.
I'm more concerned anout the cable tie use....

I used two hose clamps when I did my fuel pump replacement. Along with the locator at the bottom of course.

Yeah another Option.
Wasn't warming to the Cable tie idea...

yeah hose clamp would be better, ive taken pumps out at work with both ties and clamps, dunno how long they had been there but they seemed fine. i spose another option is lockwire, but clamps is easier

hot glue??
Well myself i would be trying to use something solid and something metal. Any bolts i would use thread locking nuts if possible and a shakeproof/sprung washer.
i would be interested in seeing pictures of how you do it too, as i will be attempting something in the RA28 tank if possible...

Well This car even though it is Aus spec has the JDM efi Fuel tank so it was a matter of dropping the tank pulling out the fuel pump cage. swapping the pump over, little bit of wiring and back together. the old pump had this dodgy looking rubber insert that was supposed to keep the base in place and the hose held the top in place however the base had popped out, hence the use of hose clamp.
Sprung washers were used for the earth strap.
If you really want photos you can come and drop the tank out and get some?!?
for the RA28, somthing I just came accross is the RA35 ran an 18R-GEU and may have a intank cage. I will look upon the microfish papers to confim if this wonderous part exists as I'll be ordering several.

i have an RA28 tank in my back yard... i was just going to play with that :P
Non-solid mounting would allow for some noise reduction, hence the rubber seat and hose at the top.
Factory uses double sprung clamps rather than threaded for hoses so improvements can be made.

Yeah I realise what the rubber bit was, how ever it wasn't doing it's job very well. I also put a foam sleeve around the fuel pump which will effecively deaden and vibration/noise transfer.

I wouldnt ave thought foam to last very long submerged in a solvent like petrol?

The foam sleeve came with the pump and instructions said it it could be used So i'm assuming it is designed for being submerged in fuel.

Just remember whenever doing an intank pump upgrade that EFI fuel hose IS NOT suitable for use inside a fuel tank. !
You need a dedicated fuel line fo rthe application or it will seperate and swell.

whats a suitable pipe to use for installing an intank FP? (if efi fuel hose is a nono). Or is a dedicated metal fuel pipe the only recomended solution?
crap i didn't relize this and i just ordered a walbro 255.

No the Sprinter tank still had a rubber Hose it was just not of the EFI flavour.
With luck you should already have a suitable bit of pipe connected to your old pump that may help.

Here's a pic of my intank setup. Mine wasn't held down by anything in the factory setup besides the hose at the top and the locator at the bottom. And I installed the walbro exactly as the factory was. When the locator is in properly it would have taken a real good yank to get it out. I also has to pull my factory wires off, but I just soldered the new ones in there place.

Excellent.... this is precisly what mine looks like....except I had the foam sleaving around mine as well.
This is what you can expect and you can see the rubber hose we are talking about in the first photo.
