Hey guys,
Has anyone done this???
Got an EP91, was tossing up throwing a black top 4age 20v in, but thought why not go 2zge??????

The 2ZZGE is not exactly a small unit. I think it might struggle to fit in a starlet engine bay.

Obvious issues with the keys plus standard ecu/use of an more expensive aftermarket ecu.
Someone tried it into and echo and failed so it may not actually fit:(

wouldnt it be more easier and far less of a headache to go 4EFTE?

Ive seen it done in an Echo, and a Starlet engine bay looks bigger. Another thing i guess is ecu, but Id be buying a front cut, so we would try and fit everything from the celica.

Yeah definatley, but we want an NA Machine to rip all the Hondas up! :P

Just to bring up this point, a 2ZZGE has never fit into a road legal Echo. There is a promo/show one going around in NZ I think.
I know of someone who attempted the conversion here but because of the angle the engine requires to be mounted at, the chassis rails need to be cut for it to fit and good luck getting that through engineering.

I'd suggest an AE82 or AE92 shell ;)

actually your 2ZZGE (after googling a bit) dimensions are
Length - 652mm
Height - 602mm
Width - 659mm
theres no way i can see that fitting in a EP91 engine bay...

id go for the FWD 3sge BEAMS if u wanna make a lot of torque, otherwise stick with the 20v idea
there are a couple of 3sgte EP82 starlets getting around, so no reason u couldnt fit a 3sge BEAMS in, its just gonna cost a shitload :)
its just gonna cost a shitload :)
and a 2zzge would cost any less:p

whats the 3sge beams from? SW20?

tsk tsk... former Altezza owner doesnt know what the BEAMS is from.... tsk tsk :P
there were two BEAMS engines.
Redtop BEAMS was in the last revisions of the MR2 SW20. Had VVTi on the Intake Cam only. I believe there was a ST204 that got it as well but i need to confirm that.
Blacktop BEAMS was in the JDM Altezza SXE10 had VVTi on both intake and exhaust cams.

lol, ohh yeah, of course I knew about the Altezza motor, but I automatically assumed that being RWD, had no way without a lot of work and $$ was going into a Starlet lol

3SGE/3SGTE isnt a stupid idea though.. might be a little costly but not as costly as most would expect.
At least you're not like this stupid tool I saw on some other forum that wanted to convert their EP91 into 4WD and put a F20C in it.... PFFFFT! School Holidays again? :P
I'd take a stab to say the 2ZZ would fit.
They fit in an AW11 with one custom mount seeing how they still use the C series based box.
If I'm not mistaken the EP also uses a C series box, so as long as the length of the motor from the bellhousing face will clear the chassis rail, it wont be too hard to fit.
If you can get your hands on a JDM or US ECU, it also gets around the factory immobiliser problem. Another option is powerfc.
You may have subframe/steering rack clearance issues with the exhaust on the firewall side of the engine.

beams was in altezza, ST200 celica and SW20 mr2.
the celica would be the obvious choice, the only choice, because your gonna need celica bits anyway.
i think the beams is a waste of money (personal opinion, dont get agro) as its a high compression, high revving engine, im sure you can do the same with any other motor, this just requires less work to the engine internally.
starlets are small cars, and only fit smaller engines (easily) so, at a guess, i take it the the 3s is going to be a tight fit, the 2ZZ is near impossible (you can do anything with money though).
if you want to keep it NA, whack in a 20 valve blacktop or silver top, or turbo/supercharge a 4AGZE 16v.
the above is my personal opinion, i know you wont agree, dont start a war about it!

All good points Eldar0, Im not disagreeing with anyone, just taking pointers. I guess the fist thing to accomplish is measure the engine and compare with the size of the engine bay, and go from there, want it an NA 100% tho, no turbs or sc etc

go a 7age then, 1.8L 20v goodness! :D its even been done before!
there were two BEAMS engines.
Actually, if you want to get technical, any Toyota engine with VVTI is a BEAMS engine.
Hence the 2ZZ is also BEAMS :p

i have a wrecked Sera here, with a high-compression 5E-FHE, with 90 something thousand on it, running perfectly after the crash. you could take it, do some crazy headwork, drop it right to your E series mounts, and off you go! it was pretty zippy even in the rather heavy automatic sera.
$1000, just take the car away with it! 0439 919 890 if your interested

Maybe, but it doesn't have it written on the plastic cover on the top of the engine, like the 3SGE's do ->
